History
The old leisure centre, at the same site, was opened in 1977 and hosted a range of leisure activities, including a
swimming pool with wave generator and hydro-slide, bowling greens, and number of mixed-use halls. In its heyday, it was one of the top 10 visitor attractions in the UK, in the same league asMadame Tussaud's .
