Josephine "Jo" Madonna Sugden (née Stiles) is a fictional character on the ITV soap opera "Emmerdale". She is played by Roxanne Pallett.

Overview

Jo Stile's "sexy bombshell" character descended on the Dales after Paddy Kirk went looking for a temporary receptionist. Her arrival was noticed by the local men – especially Max King and Danny Daggert. Although she agreed to go out on a date with Danny Daggert, Jo soon realised he was far too tame for a bad girl like her. So with no potential boyfriends around, Jo made friends with her new neighbours and played matchmaker.

Matchmaking: Dawn Hope and Danny Daggert

After seeing some chemistry between her new best mate Dawn Woods and former flame Danny, Jo set the pair up. However, Jo’s carefree, single life began seeming attractive to Dawn, so she dumped Danny. Jo’s other attempt at matchmaking went wrong, too. Jo tried to help her lonely boss, Paddy Kirk, by inventing a chat room girlfriend for him called Fireblade. It all seemed like harmless fun until a frustrated Paddy booked a ticket to Portugal to track down Fireblade.

When Paddy returned with vivacious Toni Daggert (cousin of Danny Daggert) on his arm, Jo knew she wasn’t Fireblade and became desperate to stop her taking him for a ride. But the joke was on Jo, Paddy had sussed the deception and he and Toni were just looking for a way to pay her back. By now Jo was living happily with her pal Dawn at Connelton View but trouble was on the horizon when Scott Windsor arrived back. He tried to seduce Jo, who turned him down, and Dawn believed something was going on between them. Although they sorted it out, Jo was soon forced to move when Dawn’s mum Jean arrived.

Relationship with Andy Sugden

Jo was invited to stay at Butler’s Farm with Andy Sugden and his wife Katie. However, the fragile peace was about to be shattered. Having sexy Jo around started to get on Katie’s nerves – especially since Andy seemed more than happy with the view. She made moves to try and get her to move on, but Jo was determined to stay.

When Jo spied Katie being kissed by Andy’s teenage brother Daz, Jo saw an opportunity for blackmail her rival. Katie recently threw Jo and Andy out of his farm after she discovered their affair. However, Jo and Andy were forced to move back in as they had nowhere to go.

Andy told Jo about the fire, which he caused, that had killed his stepmother, Sarah Sugden. Andy told Jo about this in confidence, but Andy was angry with Jo when he found out Jo had told Katie.

After the revelation that Andy killed his mother, Victoria - Andy's sister - soon discovered and caused Annie's Cottage to go up in flames.

Andy was sent to prison for a sentence of three years in January. It was here Jo and Andy married on 19 February 2008, just weeks before his sentence was turned over and he was released.

After his release, Andy started being violent towards Jo, attacking her on several occasions. Recently, Jo told Debbie about the violence. Debbie asked Katie if Andy had ever hit her, which got Katie suspicious. She warned Andy about Jo spreading rumours, which resulted in Andy going to attack Jo when she got home.

However, Jo was saved from the attack when she told Andy that she was pregnant, though as soon as she had said it she wished she hadn't.

It has been revealed that Jo will leave Emmerdale later this year and that the character will have a huge exit. Many believe that she will be brutally murdered by Andy.
