"American Ghost Dance" is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is the third track from their 1985 album, "Freaky Styley". It was released as a single in the same year.

On the remastered "Freaky Styley" CD, the song does not fade out as it does on the original vinyl. Instead, the main riff is played once more in a different key before the song comes to an abrupt end. This version is slightly longer than the original.

21 years later, the band would base their song "Hump De Bump", from the album "Stadium Arcadium", on this song. A working title for it was "Ghost Dance 2000" because of the similar bass line and horn section.
