Jim Shapiro (drummer)

Jim Shapiro (drummer)

James Gordon Shapiro, also called Jim Shapiro (born March 19, 1965) is an American rock musician.

Jim Shapiro is the brother of singer/guitarist Nina Gordon and the son of Robert Shapiro, former chairman of the board of Monsanto. He graduated from Yale University in 1987. Jim Shapiro was the original drummer of the band Veruca Salt and co-wrote the track "Number One Blind" on their debut, "American Thighs" (1994). In 1997 he left the band after their second full album, "Eight Arms to Hold You", was released. He then formed his own band Ultraswiss, where he was the frontman (guitar/vocals), together with former Veruca Salt bassist Steve Lack.

On Nina Gordon's solo debut "Tonight and the Rest of My Life" (2000), Jim Shapiro played mellotron and guitar, and in 2003 he recorded "Up Late With People" with Rick Ness' project Ness.

Currently Jim Shapiro is a member of the band Hushdrops.
