The Faculty of Laws is a founding faculty of
University College London and was founded in1826 . It was the first to offer a systematic university education incommon law inEngland predating evenOxbridge . John Austin, a pupil ofJeremy Bentham , became the first Professor of Jurisprudence and Andrew Amos, a successful barrister and respected Recorder, became the first Professor of English Law and later Professor of Medical Jurisprudence.Present day

It also publishes theUCL Jurisprudence Review , which is the only academic student law journal in the United Kingdom.The faculty currently offers a 3-year
LLB programme, a 4-yearLLB with Advanced Studies programme, a 4-yearLLB with Another Legal System progamme (involving a year spent in a foreign university) and two 4-year double degree programmes withColumbia Law School andUniversity of Cologne . It also has exchange links with many law schools around the world.UCL is one of the founding members of the National Admissions Test For Law (LNAT) consortium and requires all applicants to undergraduate law programmes to take the LNAT.
