Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University named after the famous saint Sant Gadge Baba is a public university located at Amravati which lies in the Vidarbha region of the state of Maharashtra in India.

History

Amravati University "or" University of Amravati was established on 1st May, 1983 by the partition of University of Nagpur on the auspicious "Maharashtra Day" & Worker’s Day. The University, in its small span of two decades, has contributed in many ways for the economic, social and cultural upliftment of the society by offering quality education in the region. The motto of Amravati University is – "Education for Salvation of Soul". The University campus is spread over an area of 225 hectares and the University is home to 20 post-graduate academic departments running around 25 courses in different disciplines.

Jurisdiction

Amravati University has a jurisdiction extending over 5 districts of Maharashtra namely Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal and Washim.

Affiliations

Amravati University is recognised under Section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of Ministry of Education, Government of India. The University received NAAC accredition in the year 2002. There are 127 affiliated colleges to Amravati University with an enrollment of around 90,000 students for both the undergraduate and graduate courses in different faculties. Amravati University is also an associate member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London.

The university offers various courses in 10 Disciplines which includes : Arts, Commerce, Sciences, Medicine, Ayurved, Education, Social Science, Law, Home Science, Engineering & Technology. Amravati University has facilities to offer post-graduate & advanced education in Computer, Biotechnology, Business Management, Law & degree courses in Chemical-Technology.
