* May 27, 1199 Friday — John Lackland (11671216) became King of England upon the death of his older brother Richard the Lion Hearted. His coronation took place in Westminster Abbey. The Angevin Empire he had inherited stretched from the Pyrenees to the Scottish border (the Tweed). John was the first Plantagenet to reside in England.
