Nick Logan

Nick Logan is an English journalist and magazine editor born in Lincoln in 1947.

Biography

Logan started his journalistic career in the 1960s writing reviews and articles for the NME. By 1971 Logan had become assistant editor of the magazine and had started to change the paper into a hipper and more cynical magazine from its previously reverential approach to music.

In 1973 Logan became editor. By 1978 Logan moved on to successfully launch Smash Hits, a weekly pop magazine aimed at the teenage market. In 1980 he launched The Face with Wagadon, his own publishing company, a hugely influential magazine for much of the 1980s. Logan became a major figure in publishing at this time, launching other magazines such as Arena.

During the 1990s, The Face began to lose its influence in a crowded market and was cancelled in May 2004. EMAP also closed Smash Hits in February 2006.
