Kwale is a small town in
Coast Province ,Kenya . It is located at around coord|4|10|60|S|39|27|0|E; 30 km southwest ofMombasa and 15 km inland. It is capital of theKwale District . The town has an urban population of 4200 (1999 census) [http://treasury.go.ke/cbs.go.ke/pdf/authority.pdf] . It is next to theShimba Hills National Reserve .The colorful town of mombasa can be seen from Golini due to its high altitude.Past Kwale is The Shimba Hills Hotel "' and Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary running along the KWS strip.Kwale is the main town of the Digo and Duruma.these people belongs to the Mijikenda Ethnic group of the Coast Province of kenya.Other tribes found in the district include the Kambas, Arabs and Indians though to a very small proportion compared to the Digos and Durumas.The area MP is Chirau Ali Mwakwere who is in his second term in office. His election to a second term was shrouded in controversy as his opponent on an ODM ticket, Mwanyoha, claims that the elections were rigged in his (Mwakwere's) favour. The case is still in court.Kwale is a very important town for small scale Farmers from the inland areas of, ie Golini, Kinango,mkongani, Mwaluphamba,Tiribe and more others for the sale and transport of their produce. Among other farm pruducts, kwale produces, Oranges, Pawpaws,Mangos, Bixa,Coconuts, a variety of Vegatables and Cereals.
