Lafayette High School (LHS) is a high school located in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Students from around the district can enter Lafayette High through several programs, including Gifted and Talented, Special Education, Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, English as a Second Language, or through the Academy of Health Careers.

LHS has approximately 13 sports and athletics teams and approximately 70 clubs and organizations.

Lafayette High School is one of the largest comprehensive high schools in the state.Fact|date=April 2007 The student population includes students from Acadian, Creole, Hispanic, African American, Asian, Semitic and other ethnicities.

The curriculum includes gifted, advanced placement, honors, and regular level courses.

The arts programs include concert band, marching band, symphonic band, musical productions, and theatrical and visual arts. The school also has a communications department, and a vocational career program (including the "Academy of Health Careers").

Special Education Programs include those which cater to students who are multi-handicapped, learning disabled, gifted, hearing impaired, and/ or visually impaired. There is also a French Immersion program.

Academic Programs

Gifted and Talented

Lafayette High School is the only high school in the Lafayette Parish Public Schools to have this program. This is for students who passed the Gifted and Talented exam. This program allows for accelerated growth for students who need this kind of education. Lafayette High School has many gifted classes for these individuals. Gifted classes are generally more challenging and require more dedication and hard work from students. Each year, many students from this Gifted program also acquire college scholarships due to their excellence.

Academy of Health Careers

Lafayette High School is one of the "Schools of Choice" for the Lafayette Parish Public Schools. This means that it has an Academy of Careers, a program that the school system started. Students who want to work in the medical field may get high school education and first-hand experience here. In order to enroll in the Academy of Health Careers, students must submit an application in their 8th or 9th grade year, write a paper about why they want to be in the Academy of Health Careers, and also complete an interview. However, because of limited space, enrollment is actually randomly chosen.

Programs for the Handicapped

Lafayette High School also has programs such as hearing impaired, visually impaired, mentally retarded... etc. These programs also handicapped students to also participate in school like normal children.

French Immersion

This program is generally for those who speak primarily French or has a very excellent French background. Students learn different subjects solely in French, such as mathematics, English, social studies, and the sciences. Most students in French Immersion have been in the program since elementary school.

Lafayette High has a large number of clubs from which students can choose. In all, there are 41 clubs. They are, in alphabetical order: Alpha Omega Club, Amnesty International, Art Club, Beta Club, Boy's Service Club, Chess Club, Computer Club, Extreme Sports Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmers of America, Film Club, French Club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Gay-Straight Alliance, Girl's Freshman Club, Girl's Service Club, Governor's Program on Abstinence, Health Occupations Students of America, 4-H, In the Right, IRE, Key Club, Latin Club, Les Amies, Mask & Gavel, Math Club, Mes Freres, National Forensic League, National Honor Society, Philosophy Club, PRIDE, Quiz Bowl, REACH, Students Against Drunk Driving,
Science Club, Sign Language Club, Student Parking Association, Spanish Club, Writer's Club, and Young at Heart.

In 2008, the men's basketball team won the state basketball championship for the first time in the school's history. This was their first trip to the "Top 28" state basketball tournament in over 60 years.

In 2004, the men's soccer team won the first soccer state title in the history of Lafayette High, defeating Jesuit (New Orleans) 1-0 for the Division I title. The men's soccer program were state runnerups in 2005, 2003, and 1998.

In 2006, the women's soccer became the first female athletic team to win a state title for Lafayette High, defeating Barbe (Lake Charles) 1-0 for the Division I title.
