Pauline Small (
November 30 ,1924 -March 9 ,2005 ) was the first woman to be successfully elected in the Crow Tribe of Indians. She was elected to become Vice-Secretary of the Crow Tribal Council, a position she was elected to in 1966 holding office "de facto" to 1972, and served in various positions within the Crow Tribal Offices.She was a member of the Lodge Grass Board of Trustees, serving as Chairman for eight years; Crow Tribal Education Committee; and 107th Committee of the Crow Tribal Council. Crow Nation , she was very involved with tribal government.Pauline
White Man Runs Him was born on theCrow Indian Reservation in Lodge Grass,Montana . The youngest of three children, she was raised in theValley of the Chiefs district on the reservation. Small is a granddaughter ofWhite Man Runs Him . She married Ivan James Small, Sr., a member of theNorthern Cheyenne Tribe of Indians, making their home in the Busby, Montana, eventually moving to the family allotment of Packs The Hat in the Rotten Grass area.External links
