Field cricket . Theseinsect s are dark colored and slightly less than one inch in length. The males range from 19 to 23 mm and the females from 17 to 22 mm.This species, native to Europe, is endangered in part of its range due to loss of habitat. They prefer dry, sunny locations with short vegetation. The males make a burrow with a platform at the entrance from which they attract females with their "song." They are often found from May to August when the males sit at the mouths of their burrows and sing day and night
