Catherine Gallagher (born
16 February 1945 ) is a historicist literary critic and Victorianist and is currently Professor of English at theUniversity of California, Berkeley . Her most recent book is "The Body Economic : Life, Death, and Sensation in Political Economy and the Victorian Novel" (2005). She is married toMartin Jay , an Intellectual Historian in the History department at Berkeley. Indeed, few can rival her in her knowledge of 19th-Century British cultural history.elected works
