Catherine Gallagher

Catherine Gallagher (born 16 February 1945) is a historicist literary critic and Victorianist and is currently Professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. Her most recent book is "The Body Economic : Life, Death, and Sensation in Political Economy and the Victorian Novel" (2005). She is married to Martin Jay, an Intellectual Historian in the History department at Berkeley. Indeed, few can rival her in her knowledge of 19th-Century British cultural history.
