The zygomaticofacial nerve or zygomaticofacial branch of zygomatic nerve (malar branch) passes along the infero-lateral angle of the orbit, emerges upon the face through thezygomaticofacial foramen in thezygomatic bone , and, perforating theOrbicularis oculi to reach the skin of the malar area.It joins with the
zygomatic branches of the facial nerve and with theinferior palpebral branches of themaxillary nerve .The area of skin supplied by this nerve is over the prominence of the cheek. This was recently confirmed in a study using microdissection of cadavers.cite journal |author=Hwang K, Jin S, Park JH, Chung IH |title=Cutaneous distribution of zygomaticofacial nerve |journal=The Journal of craniofacial surgery |volume=18 |issue=3 |pages=575–7 |year=2007 |pmid=17538320 |doi=10.1097/SCS.0b013e3180338584]
