Docklands Light Railway is between the termini of Bank and Tower Gateway to the west and Limehouse to the east. It stands on a viaduct shared withNational Rail trains (on thec2c line toEssex , with a single island platform accessed by stairs and a passenger lift (via entrance on Watney Street). It opened on31 August 1987 as part of the first tranche of DLR stations. The 1991 Bank extension joins the main DLR line just to the west of Shadwell.The typical off peak service from the station is:
*15 tph (trains per hour) to Bank
*6 tph to Tower Gateway
*6 tph to King George V
*6 tph to Beckton
*9 tph to LewishamShadwell is undergoing refurbishment. It will remain open during the work, which is due to finish in 2007.
The connection to Shadwell station on the
East London Line requires a short walk around the corner.There is a crossover east of the station which allows trains from Westferry and Bank or Tower Gateway to reverse here.
