The station went on the air with a
Christian Music format in October 1978. The station switched toChristian Contemporary in 1985 and was one of the first in the nation to adopt this format.The station identified itself as Hit Music Radio 91 FM, during the day, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., while playing different assortments of Christian Pop, Altenative, Hip-Hop, and R&B.
During the night from 7 p.m. to midnight, except Friday and Saturday nights, it played Christian Rock and Alternative music, and identified itself as The Alternative Edge.
On Friday and Saturday nights it played Christian Techno, Trance, and Electronic Music with Matt Lindsey, Divine and Dustin Skiles. On Fridays the show was known as Lifted Radio. On Saturday it was known as The Weekend Party Mix. These shows lasted from 7 p.m. to midnight. Lifted Radio replayed from midnight to 5 a.m after it originally aired.
Overnights except Friday night from 12:00 a.m- 5:00 a.m. with Vern Marks, Josh Kid, Josh Leckie, Malachi, Stevo and otherswith over the years with Christian heavy metal show known as Nitetime 91.
On Sunday afternoons, KOKF showcased the Sunday Shakedown, a Christian hip-hop and rap show, and Sunday nights featured a Christian indie rock show known as the Underdog Show with Stevie B and Stevo, that lasted from 9-11 p.m.
Today 91 FM is no logner on the air. 90.9 FM which was originally the home of 91 FM, is now the home to the Air 1 radio network, which is based out of
Rocklin, California . Air 1 plays an assortment of Christian Pop and Alternative.New owners, new era
The station was sold to
Educational Media Foundation (owners ofKYLV 88.9 FM) in 2006. OnMay 25 ,2006 at 5 p.m. the station changed from Hit Music Radio 91 FM to Air 1. EMF only runs stations that carry their Christian AC network (K-Love on KYLV) and Air 1 (their Christian Rock format).External links
