Irvington High School is a public high school in Irvington, New York 10533. It is a part of the Irvington Union Free School District in Westchester County. The building the high school currently occupies was opened in 1966, but was extensively rebuilt in the 1980s. Prior to that, the high school had occupied the Main Street School building. Before the 2003-2004 school year, new buildings for the high school and Irvington Middle School was constructed and annexed to the high school building.

Extracurricular activities

Drama Club

The Drama Club is run by Diana Selenow, who is not a teacher at the school but a director brought in by the school administration. The Club typically mounts two productions a year, one in the late Fall and one in late Winter. Since 1996, the productions have been directed by Selenow and a senior as an assistant director. Recent productions include "Oklahoma" (Spring 2005), "Damn Yankees" (spring 2004), "Babes in Arms" (Spring 2003), "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" (Spring 2002), "Grease" (Spring 2001), Guys and Dolls (Spring 2000), "Little Shop of Horrors" (Spring 1999), "Anything Goes" (Spring 2006) and "The Music Man" (Spring 2007), among others. Currently, the Club is rehearsing for 2008's spring musical, "Hello Dolly".

Band

The IHS band is directed by Lawrence Corio and typically consists of about 100 members. In 2007, the IHS Band performed at Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center and the band will be performing in Montreal in the spring of 2008. Lawrence Corio also directs the Wind Ensemble, which in 2007 received a gold metal with distinction (a perfect score) at the NYSSMA festival. The Wind Ensemble is a group of approximately 40 people who often perform publicly. In December 2007, the wind ensemble played in the MetLife Tower in New York City. Lawrence Corio also directs the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo. The Jazz Band is group of students who get together with Mr. Corio to play typical Jazz music. The Jazz Combo is another musical group, consisting of six students. in spring 2009, the IHS band students will be going to London to perform. The band has also traveled to washington D.C

ports rivalries

Irvington High School is rivals with its neighboring village, Dobbs Ferry High School. The Irvington Bulldogs and Dobbs Ferry Eagles faced each other in varsity basketball, resulting in Irvington winning, 57-49, in the second round of the playoffs, which put Irvington into the Westchester County Center to play North Salem High School. This was the second time Irvington had faced Dobbs this year, the first time ending in a 52-48 victory for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs finished the season 16-6, and 11-0 at home. chedule

Irvington High School runs on an 9 period schedule. Some classes only are taught every other day, depending on whether the day is an "A day" or a "B day." Additionally, certain art and music classes, such as band, chorus, and orchestra, are held during a tenth period. Periods are approximately 45 minutes long. School begins at 7:50 in the morning and ends at 2:35 in the afternoon. Tenth period continues an additional 45 minutes.

Bomb threats

After the Annex was built the school received a series of bomb threats beginning in February 2005 and continuing to the 2006-2007 school year. The person responsible for two of the initial threats was caught after the second scare. The perpetrators of the most recent series have not been caught. Over the summer of 2007, new security measures were installed, and security cameras may be set up around every bathroom on campus in the coming school year. There have been no bomb threats to date in the 2007-2008 school year.
