Mubarak Khan

Mubarak Khan

Mubarak Khan also Mubarak Khilji (died 1320 AD) (son of Alauddin Khilji) named himself regent of Khilji Dynasty after escaping an assassination attempt on him by Malik Kafur, once his father's trusted general. After Malik Khafur was murdered for his act by Khilji's bodyguards, Mubarak took the throne.

Mubarak ruled from 1316 - 1320

Mubarak's rule was generally described by historians as repulsive and embarrassing and he was considered as an insult to the throne. Large parts of his life were spent with concubines in the confines of the pleasures of his palace. He fell in love with a slave named Kusru Khan with whom he was reported to have developed homosexual relationship.

Eventually he was murdered by Kusru Khan in 1321 AD which marked the beginning of the end of Khilji Dynasty paving the way for the Thuqlaq dynasty to establish control over sultanate of Delhi and much of northern India.
