HEC Montréal (standing for "École des Hautes Études Commerciales"), the affiliated business school of the Université de Montréal, is the first management School of Canada. It holds accreditations from AACSB International (United States), EQUIS (Europe) and AMBA (United Kingdom), one of only two schools in North America to hold triple accreditation in management education.Fact|date=December 2007 The full name of HEC Montreal was École des Hautes Études Commerciales; the school was renamed HEC Montréal in 2002. History

HEC Montréal was founded in 1907 by the Chambre de commerce de Montréal and with the help of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society. A decade ago, HEC Montréal was primarily known as a teaching institution, but recently has increased research output. Programs

The School [http://www.hec.ca/en/international/index.html international outlook] , hosts an international exchange programFact|date=December 2007, involving partnerships with 79 universities and major management schools in 28 countries. The program operates in over 40 countries. HEC Montréal has a trading rooms which is updated with real-time financial data by Bloomberg, E-Signal and Reuters. HEC Montréal made the use of laptop computers mandatory for its Bachelor of Business Administration students.

The major language of instruction at HEC Montréal is French, but many courses are offered in English and Spanish. The school offers its HEC MBA program both in English and French with an option to take several courses in Spanish. World rankings

"BusinessWeek" has ranked HEC Montréal among the Top 10 International Business Schools in both 2006 and 2004, an improvement from a Top 20 ranking of 2002 (biennial rankings) [http://www.businessweek.com/] . HEC Montréal's MBA program was also listed among the Top 20 non-US MBA programs in "Forbes"' 2005 B-Schools rankings (biennial rankings) [http://www.forbes.com/] . Buildings

HEC Montréal and the architectural consortium of Dan S. Hanganu and Jodoin, Lamarre, Pratte and associates have won an award of excellence in the “institutional architecture” category for the School’s [http://www.hec.ca/en/generalinfo/mainbuilding.html main building] , erected in 1996. The awards, presented by the Ordre des architectes du Québec, were created to reward excellence in architecture in Quebec, and since 1978 have highlighted the achievements of Quebec architects, saluting and showcasing the finest architectural work of the past 20 years. "This building energizes people," said Jean-Marie Toulouse, former director of HEC Montréal, who called the school's former building "a bunker".
