Wolete Israel Seyoum

Wolete Israel Seyoum

Princess Wolete Israel Seyoum (died 1988), was the daughter of Leul Ras Seyoum Mengesha, Prince of Tigray, and great-granddaughter of Emperor Yohannes IV of Ethiopia. She was thus the sister of Leul Ras Mengesha Seyoum. She was first married to Dejazmatch Gebre Selassie Baria Gabr of Adwa by whom she had a son, Dejazmatch Zewde Gebre Selassie. She later married Crown Prince Asfaw Wossen, by whom she had a daughter, Princess Ijigayehu; they were divorced in 1941, and the Princess never married again.

The Princess lived quietly in Addis Ababa and the town of Nazareth during the rule of the Derg. She was the only princess not placed under arrest during their rule.
