Bishop William Placid Morris, O.S.B. (
29 September 1794 –18 February 1872 ) was a London-bornRoman Catholic bishop .Morris was ordained a priest of the
Order of Saint Benedict in 1818.From 1831 to 1840, he was Vicar Apostolic of Cape of Good Hope, Western District, South Africa. He was also Titular Bishop of
Alexandria Troas (appointed 1831/ordained 1832).Morris, whose rule extended over
Australia n missions, sent his vicar-generalWilliam Bernard Ullathorne to New South Wales, Australia in 1833, where Ullathorne persuadedPope Gregory XVI to establish the hierarchy in Australia.His Principal Consecrator was Bishop
