Scott A. Brister has been a Justice of the
Supreme Court of Texas since November 2003. He was appointed by GovernorRick Perry to serve the remainder of departing JusticeCraig T. Enoch 's term, and was elected to a six-year term in November 2004. His current term endsDecember 31 ,2010 .Background
Brister is a native of
Waco, Texas . He is a graduate ofDuke University andHarvard Law School . Prior to his appointment to the Texas Supreme Court, Brister had served as a Texas trial and appellate judge for many years. He was appointed judge of the 234th District Court inHarris County, Texas by GovernorBill Clements in 1989, and he served there until 1998. He was civil administrative judge for the Harris County district court in 1998-1999. He was then elected to one of theTexas Courts of Appeals , theFirst Court of Appeals of Texas , in 2000 and served there until Perry appointed him chief justice of theFourteenth Court of Appeals of Texas in 2001.
