Haakai

Haakai

A Haakai is a fictional type of demon created by Spiderweb Software for in their Exile and Avernum trilogies. It is a greater demon from the netherworld, stronger than the average demon, and more nimble and intelligent. It also distinguishes itself from the average demons by a fiercer reddish color, and huge wings protruding from its back(In the Avernum trilogy, Blades of Exile and Exile 3, it is blue and wingless. An average demon is only able to cast lower-level spells, such as ‘flame’, ‘poison’, and the stronger ‘ice bolt’. In contrast, the Haakai has developed some serious mental powers like summoning fellow demons to aid him in battle, casting shockwaves and firestorms, and cast devastating curses among his foes.Another form of attack the haakai uses is breathing fire. Again, this type of attack is devastating, easily reducing the health points of one of your PC’s (player characters) with 50-70 points.A final ability of the Haakai is its possession of a fairly high number of attack points, which are used to attack somebody, cast a spell or move around on the battlefield. This gives him the chance to attack thrice, or cast 2 spells simultaneously.

The Adze-Haakai

The Adze-Haakai is a Haakai Lord, a stronger form of the Haakai, powerful enough to lead entire ranks of demons. Haakai Lords are often referred to as ‘lieutenants of the underworld’ for obvious reasons. The encounter with Adze-Haakai often leads to death, as he is able to cast every spell in the entire game, mage spells and priest spells alike, and instead of breathing flames, the Adze-Haakai breathes fireballs. The vicious Adze-Haakai is only encountered once. When the player's party hears word of the ‘terror’ Linda the mage of the tower of the Magi has summoned, it is the player's task to head inside and kill it. The terror turns out to be the Adze-Haakai.
