WSOE is a student-run noncommercial radio station based at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. The station's transmitter is located on the south side of Harden Dining Hall, while the studios are located in the second floor of Moseley Center.

WSOE provides a live stream over the internet, and beginning in 2007, WSOE began podcasting select shows, including band interviews. Currently, WSOE can be heard approximately ten miles from Elon, but long-term plans are also in the works to provide WSOE to the Elon School of Law in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina.

Format

WSOE's format is alternative rock, however the station's charter requires jazz played every weekday morning from 6am to 10am, and until 12pm on Fridays. WSOE has an automated broadcast system using RCS software that broadcasts music 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, all year long. This allows for WSOE to broadcast all the time. The RCS system plays the current music in rotation, as well as jazz during the applicable time. The automation system is always running, but it can be and is turned down so that student and local DJs can do their show and play their music.

Every weekday from 6pm to 10pm has a certain theme for specialty shows (as opposed to format shows, which are regulated on what they can play). Tuesday is "Talk Tuesdays" from 4pm to midnight, and listeners can tune into a variety of programs including the political talk show "In The Know", which airs from 9pm-10pm on Tuesdays, and "The Big Show", which also airs from 9am to 10am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

ports coverage

WSOE provides exclusive coverage of Elon University volleyball, women's basketball, and men's and women's soccer and baseball at home and away games. All sports broadcasts include pre- and post-game interviews and coverage. In addition, WSOE also hosts a pre-game football show. There is also a weekly sports talk show "The Sports Guys."

Management

WSOE is run by a board of nine executive staff members, a student general manager, and one faculty advisor, not including the approximately 100 DJs who host one- or two-hour shows. All aspects of the station are run by the student executive staff, including bills, music, and most production.

WSOE is overseen by the Elon University Media Board, which oversees all student media at Elon including the newspaper "The Pendulum", the television station ESTV, the yearbook Phi Psi Cli, and the literary magazine "Colonnades"; with all of which WSOE works closely by providing promotional spots to ESTV and "The Pendulum", which in return run promos for and dedicate sections to WSOE.
