This 15.7mile (25.3km ) long road is a dual three lanedual carriageway , but carries a relatively low level of traffic. It is used to provide a shorter route from the M6 eastbound and the M1 northbound and vice versa by avoiding Junction 19 on the M1 which, until the construction of the A14 in the early-1990s, provided access to the southbound carriageway only. It was built to relieve the A46 road. [http://www.iht.org/motorway/m69coveleic.htm The Motorway Archive - M69] ]Route
