Dame June Clark, DBE,
PhD , RN,RHV ,FRCN is a Professor of Community Nursing, atSwansea University inWales , UK.Dr. Clark is responsible for the development of a program of research in community health nursing and
primary health care atSwansea University . Her special interest is the development and use of standardized s to describe nursing practice, in particular inprimary health care . Since1990 she has been consultant to theInternational Council of Nurses ' project to develop an international classification of nursing practice.She is also deputy president of the
Welsh Nursing Academy .June Clark qualified as a nurse at
University College Hospital , London after obtaining an honours degree in Classics at theUniversity of London . She then qualified as ahealth visitor , and remained in community nursing as a practitioner, manager, researcher, teacher, and political advocate for nearly 40 years. She obtained her MPhil degree at theUniversity of Reading in1972 , and her doctorate fromLondon South Bank University ,London , in1985 .She has also been heavily involved at an international level. Following the break-up of the
Soviet Union she worked to help develop nursing leadership inKazakhstan andRomania . She is a visiting professor at theUniversity of Iowa , U.S., and theUniversity of Maribor ,Slovenia . She is a frequent speaker at international conferences, has participated in numerous international task groups and workshops, has acted as consultant toWHO and ICN, and has represented the UK on ICN andEuropean Union committees.She has been an RCN activist since her student days and has held many leadership roles in the RCN, including serving as President from
1990 to1994 . She was awarded the RCN Award of Merit in1996 . In1995 she was invested as Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to nursing.Clark currently resides in
Swansea .
