Stevan Dedijer (1911-2004) was a Yugoslav academic.
Stevan Dedijer was born in
Gradačac , Bosnia to Serb parents,Milica Dedijer andJefto Dedijer .He attended secondary school in
Rome ,Italy , and graduated from theTaft School inWatertown, Connecticut , in 1930. He earned a degree inphysics atPrinceton University in 1934.Stevan worked as a journalist in Pittsburgh and
New York and later, after theWorld War II inYugoslavia .He served in the American army as a
paratrooper in The101st Airborne Division from 1942 to 1945 while his brotherVladimir Dedijer fought for Tito's Partisans. He jumped overNormandy with the task to bodyguard the Major GeneralMaxwell Taylor .He was also the Head of the
Belgrade Nuclear Institute 1949-1954.Stevan was awarded a PhD from the
University of Lund inSweden . He was also the founder of theResearch Policy Institute at Lund University.His research focus was on Business Intelligence and he has been named the grandfather of business intelligence by his friend, the late CIA DirectorWilliam Colby . Prof. Dedijer was the first person in Europe to teach business/competitive intelligence at a university. His work was continued byKatarina Svensson andHans Hedin . He was a co-founder of the Swedish Intelligence Network BISNES (Business Intelligence & Strategy Network Scandinavia) which he administered from the university together with Mr Hedin. BISNES launced a series of workshops, seminars and trainings and was a strong force that popularized the topic of intelligence in Sweden during the 1990's.Stevan Dedijer was awarded the
SCIP Meritorious Award for his services in this field.He helped organize
Croatia n intelligence services.He died in his home in
Dubrovnik , Croatia.See also
