Tahrir-ol-vasyleh

Tahrirolvasyleh (Arabic script تحرير الوسيلة, also transcribed as "Tahrir-ul-Vaseela" or "Tahrir al-wasilah") is a book (in four volumes and four editions) authored by Ayatollah Khomeini as a guide for Muslims.

Overview

The book stands in a tradition of commentaries on Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) which are commonly written by high Shia clerics who bear the title of Marja. As such, it contains highly conventionalised compilations of traditional rulings on Islamic life and morality. This contrasts sharply with other works by Khomeini, which contain more novel and controversial accounts of his theological and political stances.

The book has been the target of some polemics by some critics of Khomeini.

• "A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However he should not penetrate, but sodomising is acceptable. If the man penetrates and damages the child then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however does not count as one of his four permanent wives. • "A man can have sex with animals such as sheep, cows, camels and so on. However he should kill the animal after he has his orgasm.
