The book stands in a tradition of commentaries on Islamic jurisprudence (
fiqh ) which are commonly written by highShia clerics who bear the title ofMarja . As such, it contains highly conventionalised compilations of traditional rulings on Islamic life andmorality . This contrasts sharply with other works by Khomeini, which contain more novel and controversial accounts of his theological and political stances.The book has been the target of some polemics by some critics of Khomeini.

• "A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However he should not penetrate, but sodomising is acceptable. If the man penetrates and damages the child then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however does not count as one of his four permanent wives.
