Stuart Hall School, founded in 1843 and with buildings dating from soon thereafter, was originally named "Virginia Female Institute." It was renamed after the Civil War for its headmistress the widow Mrs. J.E.B. Stuart. Stuart Hall is a private boarding and day school in
Staunton, Virginia affiliated with the Episcopal church. The school provides girls boarding, (grades 8-12,) and co-ed day schooling. (Grades 5-12)The school has a new wing that was completed in 1997. This "new wing" includes science classrooms, the gym, lower school classrooms, a new foyer, and lcoker rooms.Stuart Hall boarding students come from all over the United States. Stuart Hall (known by the students as STU), also boards international students who come from several countries and continents outside of the US, including: Canada, Africa, Korea, China, and Mexico. Stuart Hall is located in close proximity to
Mary Baldwin College , at 235 W. Frederick Street, Staunton VA.The students and staff all particpate in traditions that have been around since the school first opened. Most of the traditions such as Ring Banquet (giving of the class rings), Loving cup, and even Graduation, are planned by students and faculty members, it gives everyone a sense of community and closeness within the Stuart Hall population.
