Étienne Parent (May 2, 1801 in
Beauport ,Lower Canada – December 22, 1874 inOttawa ) was aCanadian journalist and government official.He was editor of the newspaper "
Le Canadien " and, as such, supportedFrench Canadian journalism and writing. He was a close friend and supporter of Lord Gosford.For his eventual attacks on the government, he was briefly imprisoned, even though he did not actively join the
Rebellion of 1837 . After the Act of Union of 1840, he became a member of theLegislative Assembly of the Province of Canada .External links
