Sclavos was born to second-generation
Greek-American parents in 1961 inSan Francisco ,,California . He still lives in California with his wife Jody and his two children, aged 18 and 20. Since joining the company as one of its first employees in July 1995, Sclavos helped establish VeriSign as a global corporation relied upon by millions of consumers and businesses every day as they interact on the world’s voice and data networks. Sclavos led the company and its 4,000 employees through a decade of robust growth and technological innovation. On May 29, 2007, VeriSign announced that Sclavos has resigned as CEO of VeriSign. In 2007, Sclavos resigned from VeriSign. His last years with the company were taken up with investigations into the company's stock option program and the board's dissatisfaction with the lack of a cogent strategy for the company. It's not believed that he personally benefited from the option grants in question but it did occur on his watch.
Awards and recognition
In June 2002, he was honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for Northern California. He was also honored with the 2001 Morgan Stanley Morgan Leadership Award for Global Commerce and named to Forbes' Top 50 CEOs list.
