The California buttercup ("Ranunculus californicus") is a
flowering plant of the buttercup familyRanunculaceae .It is spring native of
California and is common in many habitats. The plant grows 1 to 2 feet in height. The bright golden flower is about 3/4" in diameter and has eight to fifteen teardrop-shaped petals. Each flower grows on a long, green, leafless stem.References
