Fernando Colunga Olivares (born March 3, 1966 in Mexico City, Mexico) is a Mexican actor known for his performances in Mexican "telenovelas.

Biography

His father is Fernando Colunga and his mother Margarita Olivares. Fernando Colunga, from the time he was a little boy wanted to be an actor. Fernando graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico as civil engineer. But after advice from a friend, Fernando went to the studios of Televisa, the best studios for well-known and successful telenovelas. Fernando started his career as a stand-in.

His first participation in the television was with the telenovela "María Mercedes" (1992) (qv. The role of Fernando in this telenovela was originally made for 10 episodes, but after the huge success that his role had, the producers made 80 more episodes with Fernando Colunga). From then onwards, he acted in many telenovelas like "Marimar" (1994) before he took his first leading role. His first leading role was in the telenovela "María la del Barrio" (1996), which was very successful. Right after this telenovela, Fernando took his second leading role in the telenovela "Esmeralda" (1997) that made him very famous not only in Mexico but in 170 countries of the world where the telenovela has been shown. Fernando became a huge TV-star with big ratings and millions of fans.

In 1998 Fernando filmed "La Usurpadora" (1998), a telenovela that had huge ratings in Mexico and in all over the world. In 1999 Fernando continued his bright career with "Nunca te olvidaré" (1999) and in the end of this year Fernando acted in the Christmas-telenovela of Televisa "Cuento de Navidad" (1999/I) (mini). The peak of his career to date came in 2000-2001 when his telenovela "Abrázame muy fuerte" (2000) won two awards for his acting in the leading role of Carlos Manuel Rivero, the "Los Heraldos" award, something like the Mexican Oscars and the "TV y Novelas" award, an award that is right from the votes of the Mexican audience, while "Abrázame muy fuerte" was the most successful telenovela of the year and of the most recent years and took the award of the best telenovela in the same ceremonies. At Christmas-time of 2001, Fernando filmed the Christmas-telenovela "Navidad sin fin" (2001) (mini) in which Fernando played a surprise role of an "ugly" and poor man.

After taking a hiatus from novelas in Televisa, Colunga returned in 2003 with the hit "Amor Real" in which he won an award for best actor. Fernando followed the huge success of "Amor Real" with his next starring role in "Alborada" alongside Lucero; novela that also proved to be a huge success and also won him a best actor award.He was chosen to be the next protagonist in producer Carla Estrada's next telenovela Pasión along with Susana Gonzales. Although "Pasion" didn't share the same high ratings of its predecessors, it is still considered to be one of Fernando's most successful in terms of his acting. His newest film is "Ladrón que Roba a Ladrón", alongside Gabriel Soto.
