Wayne EverettThe Prayer Chain was a 1990s Christian
alternative rock band. The band has been called "the epitome of the Christian underground".cite book |last=Powell |first=Mark Allan |title=Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music |year=2002 |publisher=Hendrickson Publishers |location=Peabody,Massachusetts |isbn=1-56563-679-1 |edition=First printing |pages=724-726] The Prayer Chain was known for producing moody, angst-ridden music which was, in turn, the result of creative differences within the band and with their record label.cite journal |last=Roth |first=J. Peter |title=The Last Prayer Chain Story |month=September / October |year=1995 |issue=02 |journal=7ball Magazine |url=http://web.archive.org/web/19961227175911/www.7ball.com/07/07feat02.htm |id=ISSN|1082-3980]Their first album was recorded with
Steve Hindalong at Neverland Studios and was entitled "The Neverland Sessions". This was their first release, independent. After signing toReunion Records they put out The Whirlpool EP and started touring, while focusing on their first LP "Shawl" released in 1993. After extensive national and international shows they started working on "Mercury", which was released in 1995. This album, which engineer Chris Colbert has described by saying, "you can hear the band break up on the record, you can see them extend a warm and heartfelt middle finger to the industry" [cite web |url=http://www.somewherecold.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=49&page=1 |title=Chris Colbert (Part 1) on drones, breakfast with amy, the prayer chain's mercury, etc by Jason and Brent |year=2003 |accessdate=2007-02-28 ] was their last CD, not to mention some rarities following. The band did a reunion show inChicago in 1998, then theGene Eugene tribute show in 2000, but other than some localCalifornia shows and their 2003 reunion shows atCornerstone Festival and theFlevo Festival inThe Netherlands , they are finished.cite journal |last=Postma |first=Mike |year=2007 |month=January/February |title=The Prayer Chain |journal=HM Magazine |issue=123 |pages=50–53 |id=ISSN|1066-6923 ]Members
