Trumbull High School

Trumbull High School

=History=

Trumbull High School was founded in 1961 following a population boom in the suburban town during the 1950s. The high school was originally situated at 4630 Madison Avenue, in the building currently serving as Madison Middle School [http://trumbullps.org/mms] . (Prior to 1961, all Trumbull public high school students attended the nearby Bridgeport Public Schools.) As the 1960s progressed, the town was compelled to commission a new high school plant to accommodate further population growth. In 1971 a new school plant was constructed at 72 Strobel Road, offering a then modern auditorium (which was never actually designed to be an auditorium, but instead a lecture hall), a two story media center and complete athletic complex. Middlebrook Junior High School was converted to Middlebrook Elementary School and the Madison Avenue complex was converted to Madison Junior High School.

Until 1987, Trumbull High School served grades 10-12. Due to shifting demographics, Trumbull High moved to a grade 9-12 model for the 1987-1988 school year.

Renovation

Recently, the Trumbull Board of Education commissioned an extensive renovation program for the school, including transformation of the auditorium, which currently has a dilapidated lighting system, and broken seating, into a full-fledged performance center, suitable for use by the whole town. Several additional wings at the back two corners of the school have already been added, each containing classrooms and additional locker space for accommodating the growing student body.
