NickelodeonPicture format NTSC 4:3 (480i) Original run 1995 – 2003 Mina and the Count is an animated television series created by Rob Renzetti, which was never brought into development as a full-fledged series. Instead, animated shorts of this series aired on What a Cartoon! and Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Despite much demand by fans to get it shown as an official series, Frederator Studios president, Fred Seibert confirmed there is currently no development of this.
The original Mina and the Count short, "Interlude With a Vampire," premiered on Cartoon Network's What a Cartoon! in the mid-1990s, making it the only short to be featured on both creator-guided shorts projects guided by Fred Seibert. The short was about a 7-year-old girl named Mina Harper (a play on Dracula character Mina Harker) and her encounters with a vampire during a night that she is sleeping (the count had accidentally found her when he was looking for "Nina Parker", another reference to the Dracula character). It is rumored that these cartoons were the inspiration for the Cartoon Network animated television series The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. Stories show a vampire named simply the Count, and a mortal girl named Mina, her sister Lucy, school bully Nick, Mina's father, a handful of monsters, and the Count's mean servant Igor. Everything is happening in a little town in North America where Mina's school and house is, including the Count's castle.[citation needed]
Voice actors and their characters
- Tara Strong (originally Ashley Johnson) - Mina Harper: A 7 year old human child with red long hair in a ponytail and red clothes. She likes to go to school and to play with her toys and she argues with her sister Lucy. She meets the Count one night and they become best friends. She dislikes her school bully, Nick, and Martha is probably her only human friend. Mina's mother is never seen in any of the episodes for no explained reason. Mina knows how to cook, but unfortunately for the Count, doesn't know that vampires find garlic hazardous.
- Robert Galey (originally Jeff Bennett) - Igor : Count's Quasimodo-like servant who wears sandals and green clothes and always has a maniacal laugh. He loathes Mina because she turned his master into a loving man. He hates kisses, hugs, love and everything near to it. In his free time, he likes to watch television.
- Mark Hamill - Vlad the Count: A 700-year-old immortal vampire with light blue skin and a blue vampire cape and a black suit. In his past, he probably made a living, drinking young ladies' blood but thanks to Mina Harper, he is now less evil. He has many powers, including the abilities to transform into a bat, and a cloud, to move objects remotely, and to hypnotize people and animals to do his bidding. He likes toys (again, thanks to Mina Harper) and is very intelligent. He believes that "mortal food" is disgusting.
- Michael Bell - Mr. Harper, Mina's father: He doesn't know that Count is a vampire. He just thinks he is a life size doll with offensive body odor. In another episode he believes the Count is Mina's violin teacher and has him over for dinner. He is polite, but bemused by the Count's behavior and calls him a "crazy European".
