Peter Overton

Peter Overton (born 1966) is an Australian television journalist.

Career

He joined the Nine Network as a reporter for National Nine News and graduated to weekend sports anchor on TCN9 (Sydney)and substitute for Ken Sutcliffe. Peter also filed weekday news updates from the newsroom during Brian Henderson's tenure as anchor of National Nine News (Sydney). He occasionally anchored weekend editions of National Nine News, and substituted on Daybreak news at 6am and the Today show news for Sharyn Ghidella. He also co-anchored Nine's coverage of the Thredbo disaster with Tracy Grimshaw, and co-anchored the Today Show with Tracy on at least one occasion. Peter's ongoing recognition within the newsroom led to his most prominent appointment as a reporter for "60 Minutes" however in a recent interview he has admitted before he became a journalist he was a builder and teacher. Peter was supposedly contracted to be appointed to the role of TCN9 Sydney news anchor after Jim Waley's tenure, however Mark Ferguson was appointed to the role.

Personal life

Overton grew up in Longueville, a suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, where Nicole Kidman, then a neighbour, became one of his childhood friends. He was educated at Lane Cove Public School and North Sydney Boys High School.

He is married to "Seven News" presenter Jessica Rowe and has one daughter, Allegra Penelope Overton (born January 18, 2007).
