The swim team are also known by the school mascot, "The Redhawks." Their athletic conference is GNAC. Throughout their short history, the swimmers have distinguished themselves among the most consistently strongest team at Seattle University. In 2001, the Men's Program won the NIAA National Title and the Women were runners up. Furthermore, Coach Mallery was awarded National Coach of the Year in the 1998-1999 season for his work with the men's program and a received a second recognition the following year for his work with the Women's program. After earning the NAIA National Title, Seattle University moved to the more competitive NCAA Division II. Although they only sent one representative to Nationals in the 2002-2003 season, the team has continuously sent a group to Nationals in the subsequent seasons with both teams placing in the top 20 at Nationals. In 2005, Coach Mallery became the assistant athletic director. Besides their "consistently outstanding feats (College Prowler)" the swim team (Men only) is also known for painting up in school colors and cheering other programs at SU, such as Basketball and Volleyball in the appropriate swim attire.
