It is simpler than sangria, usually made up of 1 part red wine and 1 part La Casera - a soda similar to Sprite, but less sweet. (Casera can be replicated using a mixture of Sprite and Seltzer). It is served over ice, sometimes with a slice of lemon.

The name is Spanish and literally translates to "red wine of summer". As the name suggests it is often served during the summertime. It is very refreshing, and is commonly consumed beachside "chiringuitos". It is also often home-made, or occasionally bought ready-bottled from supermarkets. In the Costa del Sol it is common for locals to drink Tinto de Verano while tourists drink sangria.
