King Faisal Specialist Hospital

The King Faisal Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh is JCIA accredited and operates 850 beds with approximately 8,500 employees. In all there are 63 different nationalities making up the staff. KFSH&RC is a state-of-the-art tertiary medical and research facility serving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region. Located in the capital city of Riyadh, the hospital is the national referral center for oncology, organ transplantations, cardiac surgery, genetic diseases, and more. The Hospital has gained a worldwide reputation for its dedication to advancing medical science and research over the past 29 years and has established collaborative relationships with internationally recognized institutions.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre offers emergency care and clinics for members of the Saudi Royal Family and other high-level VIP patients. The family of King Faisal maintains a residence near the hospital and enjoys a good relationship with the namesake hospital. King Faisal Specialist Hospital also maintains a facility in Jeddah, which is a large Saudi Arabian City along the sea.

History

King Faisal Specialist Hospital was established on 450,000 square meters of land which was donated by King Faisal who laid the cornerstone of this hospital in 1970 (the current total land of the hospital is 920,000 square meters).

In 1973, the Saudi Arabian Government signed an agreement with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) to operate the hospital. This agreement stayed in place until 1985, when the operations and administration was transferred to a National Team.

On March 25, 1975, Faisal was shot point blank and killed by his half brother's son Faisal bin Musad, who had just come back from the United States. Faisal was buried in Riyadh, and was succeeded by his half-brother, Khalid. His dream of a hospital in Riyadh would be continued by Khalid, who conducted the opening ceremony of the 120-bed hospital. This was a great day for Saudi Arabian nationals who would no longer need to travel abroad for most specialty cases.In 2007, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital continues to grow. With 850 beds and 8500 staff positions, it is the largest hospital in the Middle East. The level of respect for the hospital and its leadership has also grown.

King Fahd of Saudi Arabia died in King Faisal Specialist Hospital in August 2005.

Foreign employees

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center employs a large number of foreign workers from many countries. These foreign employees have a number of recreational facilities open to them, including swimming pools, tennis courts, a bowling alley and amenities center. In addition, the Employee Social Club & Recreation Services offer a number of recreational courses, exercise programs and trips and a variety of other benefits to the employees.
