location-Songshan District (zh-tpw|t=松山區|p=Sōngshān Qū|w=Sung-shan Chü) is a
district ofTaipei . The name of the district is historically spelled Sungshan. The Songshan Domestic Airport is located here.History
Songshan was originally named Siah-khau (錫口;
Pe̍h-ōe-jī : Siah-kháu), which is theTaiwanese language pronunciation of a lowlandKetagalan word meaning "Where the river twists". In 1920, the place became Matsuyama Village (松山庄; Mandarin Chinese: "songshan zhuang"), named after Matsuyama City (松山市) in Japan (seeTaiwan under Japanese rule ). It was a part of Shichisei-gun (Qixing District), Taihoku Prefecture (台北州七星郡). Matsuyama was merged intoTaihoku City in 1938. With the return of Taiwan to China in 1945, the Chinese name of the characters 松山 (i.e. Songshan) was adopted. In 1946, Songshan became a district with 26 municipal villages (里). In 1990, the southern half of Songshan District becameXinyi District. Its boundary was altered in May 1994, when theKeelung River was artificially moved south slightly.Administration
