CJKL-FM 101.5 is an
FM radio station inKirkland Lake, Ontario . The station is owned by Connelly Communications Corporation, which also ownsCJTT-FM inTemiskaming Shores, Ontario . Connelly Communications is owned by Rob Connelly of Kirkland Lake.The station offers a hot adult contemporary format with a mix of current music and classic hits. Hourly news and sports is provided through local announcers/reporters and Broadcast News / Canadian Press.
History
CJKL first went on the air in 1934 on its original AM frequency at 1310 kHz as part of the Thomson media empire owned by
Roy Thomson . In 1939, CJKL moved from 1310 to 560 kHz. In 1985, Connelly purchased CJKL and CJTT from Bob Ancell. In 1999, after 65 years on the AM dial, the station flipped from 560 AM to its current frequency at 101.5 FM.Community Programs
CJKL FM hosts several community events and programs including the CJKL FM Christmas Wish, The Merchant Mania Home Show, The CJKL FM Carnival Queen Pageant, The Spooktacular Halloween program, Kinsmen Radio Day and The CJKL Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awards.
Christmas Wish
The CJKL FM Christmas Wish provides gifts of new clothing and toys for needy children. The program is supported by donations from local businesses, service clubs, families and listeners. Several annual fundraisers are held for the Christmas Wish including the Kenogami Spring Break ice golf/fishing party which has raised over $100,000 in the past five years for the program.
Merchant Mania Home Show
CJKL FM hosts the annual Merchant Mania Home Show each Mothers Day weekend at the Kirkland Lake Community Complex. The event provides an opportunity for local and national businesses to sell their goods on the floor of the arena. There is no admission charge for the public, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Retailers can contact CJKL FM for exhibitor booth information.
CJKL FM Citizen Of The Year Award
The CJKL FM Citizen Of The Year award is presented annually to the person, persons or group who, through their efforts in the past year, have contributed to improving the quality of life for the people of Kirkland Lake. The award is presented at the Kirkland Lake & District Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner.

CJKL FM Carnival Queen Pageant
The CJKL FM Carnival Queen Pageant began in 1989 and runs each year in conjunction with the Kirkland Lake Winter Carnival. The pageant is open to young ladies in the Kirkland Lake area between 16 and 20 years of age. Several events are held in January and February leading up to the crowning and fashion show at the Northern College Auditorium. A volunteer board oversees the pageant with official pageant tabulations provided by Ross Pope and Company.
