"The Parent Game" was a television game show airing in syndication from 1972 to 1973. The show, produced by Chuck Barris Productions, was hosted by Clark Race. Johnny Jacobs was the announcer, (with Charlie O'Donnell substituting on a few episodes).

Gameplay

The format was very similar to one of Barris' other shows, "The Newlywed Game". The difference between TNG and this show was that Race would ask three couples a series of multiple-choice questions about their children. Their job was to match answers with a resident child psychologist.

Five questions were asked each show with the first four questions allowing all six players to give individual answers, and on the fifth and final question all couples must agree on one answer.

coring

Here's how the scoring works:
Questions 1 & 2 - 5 points (10 for agreement)
Question 3 - 10 points (20 for agreement)
Question 4 - 15 points (30 for agreement)
Final Question - 30 points

The couple with the most points wins the game, and wins a grand prize.

Trivia

* The answers were commented by child psychologist, Dorothy Thompson.
* The show's opening & closing theme song would later be used as a cue on the syndicated versions of "The Newlywed Game", "The Dating Game", and "The New Treasure Hunt".
* A different version of the show called Wait 'Til You Have Kids aired on The Family Channel (now called ABC Family).

Episode status

All episodes are believed to exist, and the show was rerun on GSN as part of their "Kids' Zone" block from 1997 to 1999.
