Conrad McMasters

Conrad McMasters is a fictional character on the television show, "Matlock". Played by Clarence Gilyard Jr, Conrad often acted as a private investigator for Ben Matlock for four years, going undercover or gaining entry into houses and buildings to obtain evidence crucial to Matlock's cases.

Personal life

Before working for Ben Matlock, he worked as a deputy sheriff in Manteo (The Hunting Party), where Matlock met him in hopes to figure out whether if Spencer Hamilton killed his brother. Conrad also told Ben he went Christmas shopping in his hometown of Manteo (The Scrooge) to purchase gifts for his friends and his boss. He was also partnered and also had a few dates with women. On (The Informer), Conrad worked with Ben's client's partner/investigator, Angela Page, to work on a case on the night one of David's clients got murdered, when Matlock sent him to Chicago to talk to Sherry Brown in questioning her about the negatives he was supposed to find them (The Secret), he received word that she died from falling off the apartment building, he had a short fling with Carla Royce (The Cover Girl), the employee who was found guilty of her boss's murder, plus, while hanging at a bar, he had a drink with one of the suspects, Anne Johnson (Mr. Awesome) for the afternoon, her ex-boyfriend, Dwayne Meeks, was murdered after she caught cheating him, hence, Anne was found innocent.

Private investigative work

Conrad McMasters worked in Atlanta with Ben Matlock, often going undercover, whether as a painter, a cook, or gaining entry into a house or a building in order to find the evidence crucial to Matlock's case. He often stakes out a house or building from his Mustang convertible, calling in his progress from his car phone to Matlock.

Trivia

* McMasters is a rodeo rider, in real life, Clarence Gilyard is also a rodeo rider and a cowboy.
* Both McMasters & Matlock had a lot in common, from going camping, singing, cooking, and driving Ford Automobiles. On "Walker, Texas Ranger", Clarence Gilyard's character, Jimmy Trivette also drove a Ford automobile.
* He repaired a gas pipe, from which it was broken (The Con Man).
* While out in Los Angeles, he also served a cocktail to one of the customers (No Where To Turn).
* Clarence Gilyard almost appeared in every episode of the NBC era, from 1989-92 (except episodes in the ABC era, for his last year), and in one episode, his character needed a lawyer to represent himself after being accused of killing his uncle, who happened to be his boss (The Nightmare), whose head was bumped unto a latch, fell down and was having the worst dream thinking that Michelle actually had done it, when he woke up.
