It is situated on the river Glan, approx. 5 km north-east ofKusel , and 25 km north-west ofKaiserslautern .The town of Altenglan today emerged from the freely union of the former independent communes Altenglan, Patersbach and Mühlbach in 1969.The three urban districts (Ortsteile) of Altenglan are Altenglan, Patersbach and Mühlbach.The name Alten"glan" stems from the little river "Glan". In Altenglan the brook "Kuselbach" flows into the river Glan.
