Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) is an engineering college in Indore. It was established in 1952 and was established as a technical Institute offering Licentiate and Diploma courses in Engineering.

At present the institute offers 9 undergraduate and 17 postgraduate courses with an intake of 650 and 150 students respectively. At any time, there are approximately 2400 undergraduate students studying in the institute. In addition Part Time Degree Courses are offered for working professionals with Engineering Diploma.

History

When established, it was known as "Shri Govindram Seksaria Kala Bhavan". This Institute came into being as a result of the keen desire expressed by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to a group of leading industrialists of Indore for establishment of a Technical Institute. An eminent Industrialist of the town, Seth Shri Kudilaji Seksaria responded by very generously donating the initial amount for starting the Institution in the name of his late father Seth Shri Govindram Seksaria. In 1956, it was converted to a Degree college with the course in Civil Engineering and its name was changed to Shri Govindram Seksaria Technological Institute, Indore. Subsequently with the introduction of M.Sc. Courses in Applied Sciences the name of the Institute was changed to its present name. From the session 2000-2001 the Institute is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (University of Technology of M.P.), Bhopal. Earlier it was affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

On the basis of quality of manpower produced by the institute, it has been ranked 16th in the country and 2nd in Madhya Pradesh. It is trying to get a Deemed University status. The AICTE declared it an autonomous institute in 1989.

Motto

The motto of the institute is::आचारः प्रथमो धर्मः (In English:"Aacharah prathamo dharmah".)

It means that one's ethos should be his/her first ("and ultimate") religion. It stress the need for clean ethics in the life of the student and urges them to mould their life to reach perfection in character religiously.

College's Mission

The mission of the college, stated verbatim reads::"To generate experts in science and technology akin to society for its accelerated socio-economic growth in professional and challenging environment imparting human values."

College's Vision

The vision of the college, urges itself to be "A front-line institute in science and technology making significant contributions to human resource development envisaging dynamic needs of the society."

Admission

At the undergraduate level, the institute offers admission on the basis of student performance in MP-PETand AIEEE. At postgraduate level, the admissions are on the basis of GATE. Admissions to the Master of Computer Applications course is done on the basis of MP-MCA examination.Admission to the M.Sc.(Applied Sciences) courses is Conducted at the Department level. It is first choice for students who have appeared in MP-PET exam.

Training and Placement Cell

Training and Placement Cell in the Institute plays a vital role and is becoming a key department of the Institute. As there are many more Engineering Colleges coming up in Madhya Pradesh, the competition for employment is increasing every day and the job of placement is becoming a challenging one.

The Training and Placement Office has come in its inception since quite a long and is performing the following activities:-

"Arranging implant training for students and

Inviting various organizations for campus recruitment."

For placement a large number of prospective employers are contacted during the year and the number of companies visiting regularly this Institute are increasing every year which has reached to around 25-30 by now.

The objective of the T&P Cell is to look for a 100% employment of all the students therefore it follows policy of ' One Person One Job '. A candidate selected for one job is further restricted to other recruitment.

At present Mr. Ajay Garg is handling placement cell and he is doing superb job. By his managing skill many new companies have started to come in campus. Mr. Ajay Garg is an MBA graduate.

Information about the institute

The Institute is located in the heart of the city,few minutes from Railway Station and Bus Station. The total land area of the Institute is 35 acres while the building area is 25,000 square meters.

Staff Quarters : 6 Professor Quarters. 24 Lecturer Quarters 14 Readers Quarters 30 Quarters for class III & IV employees.

Guest House : For 20 persons

: 4 Boys Hostel of total capacity 600 seats. : 1 Girls Hostel of capacity 100 seats.
