The US Post Office-Cooper Station, also known as Cooper Station Post Office, is located at 93 4th Avenue, on the corner of East 11th street. This post office and its sub-office (located on 3rd Street near Avenue C) serve the 10003 zip code, better known as the neighborhood of the East Village in New York City, NY.
The post office is named in honor of Peter Cooper, the mid-19th century industrialist and philanthropist who founded the nearby The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
Trivia
* The fictional character Newman from the television sitcom Seinfeld supposedly worked here. The image of this corner building was used frequently on the show just prior to the beginning of a scene.
* The WPA era building is listed on the List of Registered Historic Places in New York
