Sandar Win

Sandar Win

Dr. Khin Sandar Win ( _my. ခင်စန္ဒာဝင်း) is the daughter of deceased Burmese dictator, Ne Win. She was born in 1952 in Yangon, Burma. Educated at the Methodist English High School in Yangon (now Basic Education High School No.1 Dagon), she graduated high school with the highest scores in all of Burma, according to newspaper accounts. She then attended Medical College to become a doctor.

Considered Ne Win's favourite daughter, Sandar Win is believed to have been influential throughout the rule of her father, often acting as a mediator between Ne Win and the BSPP (Burma Socialist Programme Party). Sandar Win was also a key figure in suppressing the 1988 uprisings, during which thousands of Burmese protested demanding democratic control.

Sandar Win is currently under house arrest in her lakeside house on Ady Road in Yangon. Sandar Win's husband, Aye Zaw Win, along with Kyaw Ne Win, Aye Ne Win, Zwei Ne Win and other family members, was convicted of plotting a coup in the late 1990s, and is currently imprisoned in Insein.
