Maitland Jones, Jr (born
November 23 1937 ) is an American experimentalchemist , based primarily atPrinceton University . He received tenure in 1973.Jones is an internationally-recognized research scientist. His special field of expertise is reactive intermediates, and within that subfield he is particularly interested in
carbene s. He has published extensively in the field oforganic chemistry , particularly focusing on the mechanism of molecular reactions. His interest areas include carbenes,carborane s, andheterocycle s. Over almost forty years, he and his research group have published some 225 papers, averaging some five papers per year or one paper per active group member per year. Jones is also the author of a celebrated series of "Organic Chemistry" texts.Jones is sometimes credited with the naming of
bullvalene .Jones is also passionate about Jazz music and the Grateful Dead.
