19 February ,1947 -13 December ,1991 ) was anAustralia n conductor.Challender succeeded
Zdeněk Mácal as chief conductor of theSydney Symphony from 1987 to 1991. In Australia's bi-centennial year (1988), he led the orchestra in a successful tour of theUnited States . He died of anAIDS -related disease on13 December 1991 .External links
